VAT on products for disabled people
For more information about VAT on products for disabled people please see HM Revenue and Customs leaflet 701/7 – VAT reliefs for disabled people.
VAT (Value Added Tax) is charged on most goods and services supplied in the UK. However, if the criteria listed below are met, then you don’t have to pay VAT. This is designed to save disabled or chronically sick people money. All the products on our website are designed for the use of disabled people.
To qualify for VAT relief (i.e. so you don’t have to pay VAT), you must supply us with a declaration that states you are disabled. If we don’t receive this declaration, then we will have to add VAT onto the bill – sorry, it’s the law!
What criteria have to be met?
To qualify for VAT relief the following 3 criteria must be met:
- The person using the product must be ‘chronically sick or disabled’ e.g. has a physical or mental impairment which has a long term or substantial effect on their ability to carry out everyday activities;
- The product is designed to be used by someone who is chronically sick or disabled;
- The product is for personal use.
VAT Declaration Form
I declare that I am an eligible person under VAT notice 701/7/94, the products being supplied to me are for my domestic and personal use and thus am eligible for relief from VAT.
